39 Brittany, Our Second Daughter, Is Born!

On Tuesday, September 7, 1982, Jill delivered our seventh child and second baby girl, Brittany Claire Dunford. We had called the doctor that morning because Jill was feeling so uncomfortable. He checked her at the hospital and decided that she should stay. Her waters were broken at about 9:00 AM and Brittany was born at 10:55 AM!

Jill was just amazing all through the delivery. She had no anesthetic but never cried out. I admired her great courage and bravery. I felt so lucky that she was my wife. I loved her so much!

Brittany weighed 8 lbs. 10 oz. at birth and was 20 & 3/4th’s  inches long. She had lots of red hair, the same lovely color as Matthew’s. She quickly got into nursing, and when we saw her later in the evening, as we visited the hospital as a family, she looked to me like she was several weeks along rather than a newly-born baby that morning!

Jill was radiant. I don’t know how she did it  She was walking easily and talking confidently and happily about the future. I was so grateful to Heavenly Father for His incomparable power, kindnesses, and mercies showered upon us! I knelt and bowed my head humbly, amazed and overcome with joy in His loving care, concern and generosity. Words could not express my feelings at that time or since. I supposed at the time we could best repay His blessings upon us by living our lives in accordance with His commandments and inviting others of His children to do the same.

Brittany was a joy from the very beginning, and has been so ever since.

The following day we brought the beautiful mother and her daughter home at about 3:00 PM. All of the children were excited.

It was a precious time – the last of our seven experiences like this. Brittany was born at about the mid-point of our ten-year stay in Dayton, Ohio.  Here are  some clips from

highlighting some of our family’s happy memories during the decade we lived there from 1976 to 1986.
